Puakea Designs Edge Rudder

The Puakea Designs Edge Rudder designed by John Puakea and Billy Lawson on Oahu, Hawaii. This rudder is designed for the Cantare, Volare and Kahele OC1 and made by Outrigger Zone.

Compatible with select Puakea canoes only. Please SELECT the correct rudder for your model canoe in the drop down menu below. THIS RUDDER IS NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL MODELS, as every OC1 canoe design has a different rudder shaft.

The Edge rudder design goal was to create better and more control with less drag. With the airplane wing as the inspiration, this is all about lift which is created by pitch (varying degrees of attack) and the controlling force or “roll effect.” The Edge rudder was designed to smooth out the controlling force effects the rudder has on the canoe while maximizing efficiency and performance with minimal drag in the surf.

Puakea Edge 10.3 Standard Rudder
- Designed as a versatile rudder for most conditions from flat water to mid-water
- Designed as a surf rudder for the Cantare & Kahele
- Default rudder for the Kahele and Volare (depending on location)
- Primary rudder for paddlers looking for a great everyday rudder
- Secondary rudder for paddlers in a combination of conditions
- Specs: Length - 10.3 inches, Width (at widest part) - 3.5 inches, 0° sweep
- Available for the Volare, Kahele and Cantare

Puakea Edge 11.5 Surf Rudder
- This is the same design as the Edge 10.3, but with more length for larger water conditions like Kaiwi Channel, Pailolo, Makapuu, etc.
- Designed as a surf rudder for large water conditions
- Improved tracking while minimizing stall
- A great rudder for paddlers in big water conditions
- Secondary rudder for paddlers in a combination of conditions
- Specs: Length - 10.3 inches, Width (at widest part) - 3.5 inches, 0° sweep
- Available for the Cantare, Volare and Kahele
